Common Conditions We Treat
Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
Condition
A functional gastrointestinal disorder affecting gut–brain interaction, characterised by recurrent abdominal pain associated with altered bowel habits (diarrhoea, constipation, or mixed). Symptoms may include bloating, cramping, urgency, and relief after bowel movements, without underlying structural or inflammatory disease.
Treatment
Careful clinical assessment to exclude organic disease, supported by targeted blood tests and stool markers where appropriate. Individualised management including dietary strategies (such as low-FODMAP guidance), gut-directed medications for pain and bowel regulation, microbiome-focused therapies, stress and lifestyle optimisation, and ongoing symptom monitoring to improve quality of life.
Gastro-Oesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) & Hiatus Hernia
Condition
Stomach acid flows back into the oesophagus, causing heartburn and potential complications including Barrett's oesophagus, which increases oesophageal cancer risk. Hiatus hernia occurs when part of the stomach pushes into the chest cavity, worsening reflux symptoms.
Treatment
Gastroscopy, pH manometry assessment or wireless Bravo capsule test to assess severity of reflux. Lifestyle modifications, tailored medications, and surgical referral for severe cases unresponsive to medical management.
Dysphagia & Digestive Motility Disorders
Condition
Difficulty swallowing or 'food stuck' sensation caused by oesophageal strictures, eosinophilic oesophagitis, dysmotility (impaired muscle/nerve function), foreign body impaction, or neurological conditions affecting swallowing mechanisms.
Treatment
Comprehensive assessment with blood tests, imaging (CT/MRI, barium swallow), gastroscopy, and manometry studies. Management includes medications, endoscopic dilatation, Botox injections, or surgical intervention depending on underlying cause.
Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)
Condition
Chronic inflammation of the intestines including Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, and microscopic colitis. Causes abdominal pain, bloody diarrhoea, weight loss, and fatigue with potential long-term complications.
Treatment
Comprehensive blood tests, stool markers, imaging, and endoscopy with biopsies. Anti-inflammatory medications (aminosalicylates, immunosuppressants, biologics), nutritional support, and regular surveillance monitoring to prevent complications.
